A bit more on the massage itself...
Nuad Bo Rarn, Traditional Thai Massage, is believed to have reached East Asia thanks to life-long activity of doctor Shivago (in Thai tradition called Jivaka Kumar Bhaccha), who was member of first sangha (community) around historical Buddha. Shivago, healer, naturopath, wandering through kingdoms of ancient India in order to heal, is up to this day a patron of massage practice and traditional medicine approach in Thailand.
Until late 20th century, tradition of massaging had there mostly oral character. Nowadays two main centres of education, with schools and most reverend masters, are located in Bangkok and in Chiang Mai.
Traditional Thai Massage - called also 'Thai Yoga Massage' - involves thorough work on energy lines (sen) and acupressure of therapy points and reflexology. Several stretches are also practiced, similar to those present in yoga.
Benefits of Thai massage are numerours: balancing and stimulation of energy body, increased flow of blood and lymph, increased body immunity, muscles loosening, mobilization of joints, help in specific issues and pains.
Additional efect of this practice are: increasing of self-coordination and body-awareness of the giver, who feels also energized but in the same time centered and calm.
Practice of Thai Massage is also physical application of 'metta', loving-kindness. It is performed with empathy, awareness, contemplation.
